In Phuket, Bangtao (or Bangtao Bay or Bangtao Beach), Cherngtalay (or Chern Thalay) or Laguna, are often used to designate the same area.
Thalang means near the sea in Thai.
It is an area bounded on the west by the sea — i.e. Bangtao Bay stretching from Surin Beach in the South to Layan Beach in the North — and the expressway to the east which through the Heroines Monument and Villa Thalang and goes to the international airport.
It is a region that developed early with the Laguna Phuket, a five-star hotels and resorts and deluxe villas complex. But unlike certain areas like Patong, development is done in a rather smooth and orderly way. There are both luxury private residences, a world-renowned golf course (one of the Banyan Tree), number of restaurants, bars and retail shops, an international school (the Phuket International Academy), a branch of the Bangkok Hospital Phuket International Hospital, and a large shopping center (the Thalang Tesco Lotus).
It is close to the airport (less than half an hour), without being too close.
The beaches of Bangtao, Surin and Layan are probably the cleanest and most beautiful on the island. They will offer the choice of being in a crowd or to extend your towel with anyone in a radius of 500 meters around you, you wish.
So it's a location that meets the expectations of both permanent residents of the island and those of tourists.
